How to Stay Healthy in Body and Mind While Grieving a Loved One

Healing after the loss of a loved one is never easy. Sometimes it can take years for us to fully grasp the situation and start to move on. However, while it is perfectly natural to take a long time to grieve, it is still important to stay healthy and prioritize your mental health, and you can do both by setting goals and working towards a better future. Here at Top Form Design, we are all about using fitness to improve both mentally and physically, so we have some tips for how you can keep your health in check even during these tough times.

Talk to Someone

After facing a tough loss, the first thing you should do is talk to people you love and trust so you can discuss your feelings and create a plan for getting better. Talking to family is never a bad idea as they are going through the same tough situation. If that is not enough to put you in a better place then you can also consider speaking to a professional therapist. If you are not yet ready to talk face-to-face, then you can try one of the many online therapy apps for a quick one-on-one.

Spend Time With Your Thoughts

It is okay if you are not yet ready to talk with others, but you should still try to put yourself at ease as much as you can. This is a time to look inside and try to feel better about the fact that your loved one has moved onto a better place and you are still here to live the best life possible. You can start to feel that inner peace by trying yoga or by meditating and taking a class if you need to.

Another way to express your thoughts and fears is to write them all down in a journal. You should not keep your feelings bottled up, so before you go to bed each night, document how you are feeling. It will feel good to let it all out.

Exercise

Once you begin to get your energy back up, it is a good idea to get into an exercise routine. You can start small by fitting in 20 minutes of exercise per day which can be a combination of cardio (running, nature hikes) and light to medium weights. In order to stay motivated, set a goal for yourself, like getting to a certain weight, and work towards it for that 20 minutes every day. A great way to get cardio without worrying about the outside elements is to get an exercise bike like a Peloton that will allow you to exercise in the comfort of your home.

In addition to weight loss, exercise will also give you the natural energy that you need to get through these tough days and it can also improve your mental health and help you to avoid further stress and depression.

Educational Goals

Sometimes, when we lose a loved one, we think less about how to heal our bodies and more about how to improve our minds. We also tend to think about how short our time here really is. You can change your life in both of these respects by going back to school and getting a degree in a field that you always wanted to learn so you can have a meaningful career. Luckily, getting your bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree is easier than ever due to the existence of online classes that allow you to get the same high-end education without leaving the house.

It is important to do your research when choosing an online school. You’ll need to make sure that it is an accredited university so you know you are getting the education you deserve. On top of that, you’ll also want to shop around to ensure that you find a school that offers competitive tuition rates.

As you can see, although it won’t always be easy, there are ways that you can recover from the death of a loved one and try to live your best life. If you would like to know more about how the products at Top Form Design can improve your exercise regimen, then contact us at info@topformdesign.com.
